The following is a message that was left in the guestbook area and was put here to keep a permanent record.
I have two children one born at 24 weeks, the second born three days late thank God as I don't think I would have coped second time round. My first child Anthony was born on 12th March 99 at 24 weeks and 1 day weighing 1lb 12oz. I was told he would most likely die if not within a few minutes then within the first 3 days. I was told they would put him in a basket and I could spend as much time as I liked with him. After ten minutes of CPR he was ventilated and taken to special care. I was finally allowed to see him after 5 hours and hold him after a month. He came home after 18 weeks of going through total nightmares such as low blood pressure, jaundice, hemorrhage of the lungs, collapsed lungs, heart surgery, septiceamia....the list goes on three steps forward 10 steps back continuously.
But hard to believe it when I look at him sometimes he is the most happiest and healthiest 2 and a half year old I know. He's bigger than kids his age in nursery, he knows all his colours, all his alphabet, numbers etc.
So there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and I believe that prem babies eventually over take full term babies in growth and development, eager to make an entrance in to the world and eager to make an impression.
I'd be happy to share my experiences with anyone who is going through the experience of having a prem baby as I know it can be a lonely experience and you need every little bit of hope possible.
